Our success and that of Huddersfield’s heritage in the fine Worsted industry are interwoven. Unmatched craft skills and expertise handed down through four generations of master fabric finishers, from WT who started the company in 1910 to Paul and Dan. Bankfield Mills, its original home since 1910, has access to soft Pennine water, a key element in the production of fine fabrics for over 100 years.

location
Pure, soft, pennine water, perfect for wet processing.

Textile manufacturers have been attracted to the Huddersfield area for over 700 years, creating a centre of excellence for wool processing. Pennine water filters through the local grit stone and shale, making it pure and soft – perfect for washing and scouring wool and ideal for the delicate processes that provide the finishing touches to the world’s finest wool and worsted cloth. In the 1930s we drilled our own bore hole to access this element which is fundamental to our processes.
